Sharing Your Songs: Video

The number of Youtube stars and successes that have emerged in the last few years shows the trend we are heading towards...and we must ride with the times. These days, to get your songs heard, it isn't quite enough to just upload your songs on a music site. The 1st place where anyone goes looking for a song is....(correct me if I'm wrong) but yes, it's Youtube! Why? Maybe it's because we want to look at something while we listen, though I can't understand why....I usually like to put on the headphones, close my eyes, and just "let the music engulf my soul and spirit". But anyway, back from daydreaming of those good old days, here are a few options to get you started. It is really up to you what you want to do, and you will eventually find out what is effective, and what is not. This is just a start...

1. Lyric video with plain background. This is probably the easiest to make and you can do so with the basic Windows Movie Maker or any basic video editor. There are numerous tutorial videos on Youtube to help you get started. Sometimes, a simple video like this is all you need to share your song. The video below is a perfect example...and it has nearly 20 million views.

2. Lyric video with photo background. This is quite similar with No.1 except that you use a photo instead of just plain background. Just to show that you do not always need a very complicated video, below is my most popular video on Youtube...so far with over 3 million views. It is a fairly simple video with only a photograph in the background, and most times this is all that is needed to share your songs.

3. Lyric Video with a series of background photographs. You have the option of adding some animation when you use more than 1 photograph for the background, thus making the video more interesting to look at.

4. Lyric Video with pre-designed background (and typography). This involves some designing...and while the video isn't very complicated to make, the designing of the background will require some effort. Below is an example with scrolling lyrics:

5. Music Score Videos. This is particularly useful for those who read music. Below is an example. (The process is too complicated to put into words. If you wish to know how I did this, perhaps a workshop at some point in the future.)

6. Combinations of any of the above. It is really up to your creativity. Almost all the videos on my channel were made with the Movie Maker. Visit my channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/emui/videos) to see more variations. You will notice that most of the videos are rather simple for my intent was solely to share my songs. Most times, that is all you will need.

Below are options that require a considerable knowledge of video editing:

7. Standard music video. This would be anything staged, with props, costumes, scripts, extras, and synced to the studio recording of the track.

8. Music video with video clips from movies.

9. Sandart Music Video. Not sure how they did this, but it's very nice and effective.

10. Live Performance Videos. Turn on the video camera and capture live. Lots of you are already doing this.

11. Live Worship Video footage. This is probably by far the most popular kind of music video. 1am has done a pretty good job in capturing their worship on video without compromising on the audio quality. Check out their video below. More on their page.
