Sharing Your Songs: Songwriting Competitions

From 2005 to 2009, there was the MRSC, Malaysia Revival Songwriting Competitions, where we saw the emergence of talented songwriters in the likes of Teh Ju-Ping, Nick Choo, Lim Chee Peng and Diana Wee, and the discovery of bands like Free to Fall, Bus Company and Army of Three. These bands were later signed up with Starmaker. Winning songs from MRSC 2005 were released under Starmaker in the compilation album, "Carbon". In 2006, the winning songs were staged into a musical and later recorded and released under the title "Rizuan, The Musical".

Among the winners that have gone on to produce their own albums are Gabby Tham, Lourdes Dass, and Geoff David Koh. Since then, we have not seen another competition at this level of influence and participation.

On the international front, there are numerous competitions that accepts submissions from international applicants.
